List of Maps Available for Sale

A few words are in order concerning the following list of maps. They were predominantly produced by Edward Stanford of London although other prominent names that appear are Arrowsmith and Walsh. The grouping by country, continent or region is a general guide only as the maps often contain parts of surrounding areas. Not surprisingly there is a great correlation between where the British had a significant military presence and/or colonial interest and the number of maps produced. Examples would be South Africa (Boer War), Indian subcontinent (Afghan War) and “The Great Game” with Russia as well as Asia Minor (Crimean War). The maps reflect the appropriate names of the time. As an example there are large number of maps generally referred to as “The North-West Frontier of India.” The maps may include what is now Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kashmir (India) or even Iran (Persia) and would often overlap into the Russian and Chinese Mountain Regions. What is interesting to note is that the data necessary to produce these maps were gathered in the most adverse of conditions and represented the best of technology and accuracy for almost a century. Being replaced only by today’s modern satellite.

Africa: Africa, Algeria, East Africa (Kenya/Tanzania), Egypt, Ethiopia (Abyssinia), Kenya, Morocco, Namibia (South-West Africa), Nigeria, Nyasa, Somali, South Africa, Sudan, Uganda, Zambia (Northern Rhodesia), Zimbabwe (Rhodesia).

Afghanistan, Antarctica, Arabia, Asia, Asia Minor (Caucasus, Black Sea), Australia, East India, Pacifica, British Colonies, Ceylon, China, Crimea, Europe, India, Iraq, Japan, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia (Caucasus), South America.

POSTAGE: US: $9.00 first map, $7.00 each subsequent map. Foreign $21.00 first map, $11.00 each subsequent map. California residents add 9.75% sales tax. VISA/MASTERCARD/AMERICAN EXPRESS accepted. On credit card orders include entire account number, daytime telephone, fax number, expiration date and note whether billing address differs from shipping address. U.S. FUNDS ONLY: No exceptions.
