Item #1793 Kenya Diary 1902-1906. Colonel R. Meinertzhagen.

Kenya Diary 1902-1906

Edinburg: Oliver & Boyd, 1957. First. Hardcover. 347 pp, ill. A vivid picture of the life of a young officer in Kenya at a time when settlers were just beginning to arrive in the country that was still inhabited by primitive tribes and wild animals. Col. Meinertzhagen servied with the KAR (King's African Rifles), was responsible for the founding of Nyeri and spent much time in the Nandi country. He met with many well known political men as well as with the noted slave trader Tippo Tib. Here is a man who knew how to deal ruthlessly with the situations that presented themselves, but who also understood the African native. Scarce and sought after. A fine copy in near fine jacket. One of the nicest we've ever seen. Fine / Near Fine. Item #1793
