Published in 1845. 400 pp, folding maps, plates, ill, some colored. index. Vol 2: 1800 to 1815 Published 1950. 478 pp, many folding maps (some colored). Vol 1 & 2 have the surveyor of India Royal Gilt crown on front board. Volume 3: 1815 to 1830 533 pp, ill some colored, folding maps. Vol 4:1830 to 1843. Published 1958. 493 pp, ill, maps, folding maps. This is THE definitive work on the Survey of India. There is information on earlier surveyors, early attempts to map the Himalayas. In addition to technical information, there is much narrative about the areas. Little known areas like the North East Frontier, Mountain provinces and the North West Frontier are discussed. Four vg to vg+ volumes. Some corner wear otherwise quite nice. A fifth volume was produced but suppressed by the Indian Government, so these four volumes constitute the entire set. VG to vg+.
