Memorial to Sir Henry Morton Stanley

Oblong small folio. 9 original photos showing a portrait of Henry M Stanley, selection of his gravestone, the stone in various phases of production and delivery, scenery at Pirbright and final picture of Stanley's grave. There is also inserted A SHORT ACCOUNT OF THIS STONE by the Art Memorial Company (West Norwood, London) and a 2 pp letter dated Aug 27 1909 by Dorothy Stanley to a gentleman who was kind enough to show her a letter written by her late husband. The photos are mounted on thick board stock. The cloth binding is simply printed in gilt PHOTOGRAPHS with the title plate pasted inside. The inside boards show foxing but the photos and board on which they appear are pretty clean. The binding shows some general wear and a couple of corners are turned (not bumped). A very scarce Stanley item. We can find no listings. Perhaps rare with the accompanying letter from his widow. Very Good. Item #4356
