Professional Hunter: Along the Roads to Adventure, On Target, The Path of a Hunter, Legends of the Field
Agoura, CA: Trophy Room Books. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Professional Hunter: Along the Roads to Adventure by Robert Montvoisin. 2002. Among the cast of characters that played a part in the growth of big game hunting in Central (and East) Africa, Robert Montvoisin must be one of the stars. His involvement over an amazing sixty years (forty of them as a professional hunter) in eight countries (Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Cameroon, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya and Morocco) rivals the career of any African PH. His hunting dates back to the time of legendary Micheletti and Bates and continued past the closing of Kenya when he went to Tanzania and Zambia. Montvoisin hunted in Kenya with the noted Laddy Wincza, in Zambia with the popular David Ommanney and in Tanzania in the noted Selous Reserve.. Elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, bongo and Lord Derby eland - from the forest galleries to savannas, lakes and deserts - he's seen them all and taken a host of top trophies for a worldwide clientele. His career as a PH is recognized as one of the most successful in modern times. On Target by Christiam LeNoel. 1999 While noted elephant hunters have made areas like Karamojo, Oubangui-Chari and Aouk well known, no writer has ever produced a book on the history and hunting in those regions until now. LeNoel is a writer AND a season professional so the book is exciting and informative. Bongo, Lord Derby eland, dwarf buffalo are found in these remote rainforests and deserts. They are hunted by those who are hardy and full of heart because the terrain demands 100% of what any man can offer. Read about the men who always keep their rifles in the bush always ready to meet that 100-pounders. It is a superb book backed up by great research. Congo, CAR, Chad and Cameroon. There are man-killers and rogues, 100-lb tuskers and record book trophies. The Path of a Hunter by Giles Tre-Hardy. 1997 Make room on your shelf for a new classic. There are more photos of 100-lb elephant trophies in this book than in most others. This is the incredible autobiography of an intrepid hunter. The author was himself hunted during WWII and twice escaped back to his native France before heading for western Africa and then Central Africa. He was more like a John Boyes than a mere hunter. One of his favorite sayings: anything that does not deserve a .470 is not worth hunting; when in a dangerous situation make your mind up quickly and move your butt even more so. Tre-Hardy was selected as personal PH to most French Presidents that visited Central Africa during his career. It is both an excellent account of a hunting life in post WWII Colonial Africa and there are many serious jumbos hunted between the covers of this tome. It is beautifully written and well above the ordinary. It will be enjoyed by all who want to stalk an amazing assortment of huge ivory as well as getting a very interesting look at adventure from all "those British chaps." Legends of the Field by Robert Foran. 1997 Open the pages of this book to go on an old time safari. Famous names like Baker, Selous, Neumann, Oswell, Sutherland, Andersson, Bell, Jackson and Samaki Salmon have their life stories recounted by the noted Foran. The golden age of adventure will truly come alive again. One reviewer said this book was even better than Foran's first now sold out classic. Simply a must for anyone who has followed the trail of the African elephant. For many of these hunters, LEGENDS is the first real examination of their adventure filled lives.
